The Bandit prisoners at Oleg's are fully aware what awaits them once they are taken back to Brevic Lands... a quick trial, and a swiftly tied noose awaits most bandits. Because they no longer have anything to lose, the bandits have become very difficult to control, the fact that Oleg simply doesn't have the room or man power to hold them all securely lends to their increaseing bravery and bravado.
More than once one of the Charter Bearers has happened upon one of the prisoners attempting to influence Auchs toward escape...
Oleg is very concerned with the safety of the Trading Post should our heroes depart once again into the Wilds before the Envoys arrival. " I simply can't handle em all's with the men I gots... specially the the bigun'...".
Even with Akiros serving as a guardsman for the time being and Auchs seemingly docile for now, the threat the bandits pose should they get lose is still dangerously high... and Oleg wants something done... fast.
When questioned or threatened the bandits are rude and tight lipped. " I'm a dead man anyway, don't expect me to lie down to accept that fate, traitor!" Has been said more than once.
From the personal journal of Doctor House:
ReplyDeleteThese prisoners seen to be suffering from mental trauma from being seperated from the leader the Stag Lord. There is the obvious power vacuum to contend with, also the fact that these men literally have nothing to live for.
My prescription: let the ones who would be useful be granted a temporary rehabilitation period. Through tough labor and being made to serve a new non-evil Lord I believe their Munchausen's syndrome can be transferred, rendering them useful members of society. Especially the ones such as Auchs and Akiros, their skills and powers would be formidable and useful in maintaining the new kingdom.

ReplyDeleteFlynn speaks with Marahal, out of earshot of the bandits, "Something needs to be done about these bandits. We still have problems in the greenbelt that need to be taken care of, but it's too dangerous to leave these thieves by themselves. Should they persuade Auchs back into evil habits, they could do quite a bit of damage. I believe that we should promise them a place here, at Oleg's, as guards. In exchange for their good behavior, we will claim them as neccesary to the survival of this outpost. If they have a future ahead of them, it should motivate them to behave. Otherwise, we will need to beat them and keep them unconcsious. Either way, it is imperative we get them to shut up so I can study."
ReplyDeleteFlynn continues, "Of course, all this is contingent on whether or not Udon also agrees that they should remain as part of his tribe. So far, he seems to have approved of the idea so far and has taken quite a liking to Auchs."
ReplyDeleteMarshal responds
ReplyDeleteI have spoken to each of these bandits and I have looked into their souls. Maybe with time some of them could have been saved, but as it stands now, each of them are the most vile of people.
It would not do to make them guards. I wouldn't trust them to guard a female prisoner. Or, Gods forbid, if Oleg's gets attacked again. They would sooner join the attackers and put a dagger in our backs than fight them off.
No. They cannot be trust with such a responsibility. I do agree with you on one thing however. Auch could cause a problem. He is a cursed chest just waiting to be opened by the first unlucky passerby.
For that I have task Akiros to be in charged of Auch. Of all the bandits he is the only one who I believe can make something of himself. As such the two of them will be leaving Oleg's for the time being. Once we have a better way to contain Auch's rage, we will further explore other options.
The rest of the prisoners will be kept in their cells until they are claimed by the state. Those who tried to escape will be hobbled as an extra precautionary. They will have two guards watching them at all times. Any discussions on escape will be stopped.
Oleg Nods, seeming satisfied with the new developments, but voices one last concern.
ReplyDelete"What makes you think this Akiros character won't jus' up en' leave for good?"
i have gotten to know Akiros. I know him as well, if not better than my companions. I trust Akiro's to seek the righteous path. Still, he has sworn to be while under Erastil Devine influence. He will not run. Your people are safe from the bandits.
ReplyDeleteFlynn nods, accepting Marshal's judgement "I concede to your wisdom in matters of good and evil. It is shame for people to throw away their lives for a few coins."
ReplyDeleteUldon, hearing all this, begins to think, a dangerous pass time for him. He knows all these bandit need is a proper cheiftan, which ofcourse it would be him. If he could force all the bandits to follow his leadership, all of there problems could be solved. He could put them all under his protection as chieftain, his tribe would increase dramatically, and he would be one step closer to fulfilling his goal to be better than Choral the Conqueror. Uldon finishes his large piece of meat and his tankard of ale and walks over to the bandits. "Listen to me, you know your going to die a pathetic death at the hands of ninies. But if you join my tribe and help out around here, I will personal make sure you will die a glorious death battling the enemy's that dare challenge us. There is great glory and honor in this. Just pledge allegiance to me and renounce your silly bandit ways. If metal man over there believes you have changed he won't feel the need to argue with me on keeping you in my tribe. But if you break your oath to me you will have wished that bitch of a mother never pushed you out, cause I will break you and you will feel and understand what pain really feel and sounds like. Ok good we all understand" Uldon call over Marshall and tell him that the bandits have something to say.
ReplyDeleteI've already heard about what they have all done to my mother. Several times.
